so, I've seen these in other places (ie facebook) and thought it might be cool to start a list/thread/something like this on our forum! I'll give a few to start off, feel free to add ones of your own!!! Series specific stuff is cool, too, thou' potential spoilers are probably not a good idea.
You know you are an Otaku when....
- you recognize Japanese and English voice actors, and can tell what other roles they have done
- you begin to pick up Japanese words from watching anime
- when confronted with stupid drivers on the road, you feel the need to yell out 'baka' (probably just me after Nadesico, but...)
- you have gotten into debates over a series and how well/poorly it was dubbed. Or, for that matter, get really worked up one way or another over a particular sub/dub.
- you're not afraid to go walking around campus for activities fairs dressed in cosplay
- you will take any chance to do cosplay, even if it means going out in the freezing cold
- you have tried to do earthbending (some of my high school friends did this one)
- when watching Excel Saga you understand all the references to other anime. (I can not claim to be able to do this one)
- if you've considered trying to teach your dog to sit when you say "Oswari!"
-if you have anime theme songs on your ipod
thats it for now, might add more later!!! ^_^

Nice idea, Kate!
You know you are an Otaku:
- when you start quoting anime in regular conversations
- when you make an abridged series (hehehehe)
- when you name animals Japanese names (...Bethany and I named a stray cat Nekoko-chan... ;_; )
- when you start craving foods you have seen in anime
- when you go to an anime convention and recognize EVERYONE. (this is the final form of otakudom, godtier)

a few more quick ones now that I am in Germany
-you find Pocky at your local German supermarket and get uber excited
- You buy manga in a foreign language and can justify reading it as "studying" (or at least being more productive than reading it in English)

You know you are an Otaku when you are watching a German Game show to relax and take a quick study break and...
The player was trying to identify children's tv show themes. I couldn't name any of the German ones, but they also threw Yu Gi Oh GX in there (goodness knows why... Well, maybe not so weird. after four months here I'm seeing the Otaku side of Germany). I recognized it almost immediately even though I only ever saw like one episode....
So yah, kinda freaky Otaku moment (or maybe just my uber awesome ability to remember/learn melodies easily!!)

I am afraid to ask about the Otaku side of Germany. It can only be terrifying.
You know you are an otaku when...
-You aspire to draw your own manga series -A real life situation reminds you of the plot of an anime

so, I'm gonna try to get more conversation started!!! You know you are an Otaku when
One of the first things you do after moving to a big city is seeing if there are any cons you can attend
You see a cosplayer in a bookstore, and with just a quick glance at eachother you both have this instant connection
your first though when someone says "have I seen you somewhere before" in a new city is "maybe they were at Ohayocon??"
