Not madness, and not freakin' Sparta, okay? Well... all right, it is madness. But I digress.
This is Otakudom is a fan-parody by Scott Melzer, leader/creator/main guy of NoN.D.E films. What that basically means is that it's an approximately hour-long parody dub, in the vein of an Abridged Series, but much, much better than the vast majority of them. The title is, as I've mentioned, a reference not to 300, but to "This is Spinal Tap" as it actually predates 300 by several years.
Anyway, the premise it's that it's adocumentary mockumentary OTAKUMENTARY about a group of anime fans going to Otakon, made by using footage from all sorts of series, but with the main plot drawing mostly upon Fushigi Yuugi. Though "Martin Cinemaker," the creator's in-series director avatar, is Gendo from Eva, which makes it kind of awesome. There are also nods to everything from Space Battleship Yamato to... well, recent stuff for when it came out, which is all about 8+ years old at this point.
Making fun of a wide spectrum of nerdly topics and, of course, specifically the insanity that is going to an anime convention, This is Otakudom has been a yearly Otakon tradition since it was first made, and deservedly so. Obviously I can't really say what makes it funny without giving things away, so without further ado--
This is Otakudom, Part 1 of 6
The rest can be found by going to the youtube page of the guy who posted that one. The quality isn't fantastic--I actually have a downloaded copy but the resolution is fairly TINY, so it might be an only marginal improvement if it was blown up to the same size. Anyway we should totally watch it at club someday because apparently I'm the only one who's familiar with fan-parodying's proud(?) history(?) from the days before YGO: TAS. So it's mostly here for club-governmental approval, though if anyone else decides to actually use the forums and watch it, I do have a DVD of another parody by the same group that we could watch instead (S.T.E.A.M. the Movie). It's at home but I figure this wouldn't be happening before Thanksgiving anyway (and if need be I think I still have the iso file so I could burn another copy--who knows, my new computer's DVD burner might produce one that works -consistently-).
